about

downsampling the infinite
Installation (Objects/Tape machine/Stereo-Magnetic-Tape)

Stereo-digital-version in 3 parts

Downsampling the infinite is an Audio-Installation played back on a Reel-to-Reel Tape Machine (closed loop in auto-reverse mode) and uses a duration of about 45 minutes for one cycle.
The magnetic tape was guided through the exhibition space in circular forms with a metal and wooden construction.

Sonically this work explores the many states of a sound object forced to fall infinitely. It starts from floating textures to a more rapid drift. The falling later gets a more percussive touch and after crushing and (almost) dissolving it finds its starting point again.

The whole process uses only one composed passage, the microforms and sonic characteristica arise from continuously changing the Shepard-Synthesis speed parameter (ranging from 0 to negative sampling rate).
