about

SPURENVERWISCHUNG (2017)
4 channel audio installation
based on Peter Handkes text „Der Chinese des Schmerzes“, 1983

stereo mix

made for the event
„Festveranstaltung zum 75. Geburtstag von Peter Handke - Spurenverwischung, oder der Anfang des Erzählens“
at Stefan Zweig Centre, Salzburg

from the program:
„… a sound installation which tries to examine rhythmical structure in Handkes novel and translates it into sound.“

The Audio-installation is derived from a passage from Peter Handkes novel „Der Chinese des Schmerzes“ and uses this text as a sequencer model for sonic events.
Every word of this passage is analyzed using SAMPA (Speech Assessment Methods Phonetic Alphabet) and reconnected to a sound. Handkes text is then „read“ by a custom computer program which makes it sound.
The basic sound material consists of field-recordings from choosen places in and around Salzburg where exactely the story of the book takes place.
